Penny Hydraulics is a well-established and thriving firm that designs, manufactures, installs and services bespoke lifting equipment including goods lifts, cranes and lighting winch systems. It is primarily for the installation of goods lifts for which this engineer will be involved but they must be willing to work in any department.

About the role

The Installation and Service Engineer will operate out of the factory near Chesterfield but must be willing to travel to all parts of the country and be prepared to stay away overnight on occasion.  There will be regular early starts to enable work to commence on-site at 8.00 most mornings and a considerable amount of driving.  All-time worked is paid.  General engineering skills will be required and performance will be monitored.  The company has high expectations of all employees.


  • Work on site in accordance with risk assessments and method statements issued.
  • Assist the installation team with the delivery, installation and commissioning of goods lifts at customer premises.
  • Assist with the preparation and loading of goods lifts in the factory.
  • Liaise with the site manager or operator of the premises.
  • Troubleshoot site problems.
  • Take responsibility for quality, safety and environmental issues as they affect them.
  • It is a requirement that the successful person takes and passes the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) safety test in their first four weeks.

Candidate Specification

  • Formal engineering qualification preferred at minimum NVQ Level 2.
  • Some experience of working on building sites preferred.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • An interest and knowledge of machinery.
  • Computer literate.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and expand existing knowledge.
  • Good verbal, visual and written communication skills.
  • Prepared to be flexible on working hours to meet deadlines. Some overtime and weekend work will be necessary.
  • Willingness to work away from home for short periods.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • No criminal record as some work is on restricted sites.
  • Must be comfortable working at height or confined spaces and in good health.

Hourly paid: Negotiable depending on experience.

Contract: Permanent 40hr week Mon – Fri. + overtime.
