Loading Platforms (6)

In a word, no. It is important to consider vehicle stability, payload and axle loadings when specifying loading platforms.

We have to consider the carrying capacity of the vehicle and the realistic possible weight of the platform after accounting for any other auxiliary items (such as vehicle racking) and passengers.

The strength of the vehicle body and whether it can support the lift must also be considered. That being said, there is often work we can do to strengthen the body to a sufficient level to support the platform.

Our Area Sales Managers are experts in this topic and they will guide you through this, letting you know what models will be suitable for your vehicle.

You can contact the sales office on 01246 811 475, contact your area manager or use the configurator.

Penny Hydraulics will help you make sure that you have a successful crane/trailer/tow vehicle combination. To be able to specify one of our cranes we need to know the following key details:

The Load

  1. What are you lifting and how heavy is it? We can weigh items up to 4.0 tonnes for you, if required.
  2. What are its physical dimensions?
  3. How far from the base of the crane do you need to lift the load?
  4. How often will you need to lift the load? This is the duty cycle.

The Crane

The data above will help us to specify a suitable crane. We then need to see if it can be safely fitted to the trailer/vehicle combination.

  1. How do you intend to power the crane? Please note that a vehicle battery will not cope with high use.
  2. Where would you like the crane to fit on the trailer? It is likely that a large crane cannot be safely fitted to the front of a trailer.
  3. Where will the operating position be?

The Trailer

  1. What is the make and model of the trailer?
  2. What are the physical dimensions of the trailer and centre of gravity, if possible?
  3. How many axles does the trailer have?
  4. What is its empty weight and maximum load capacity?
  5. What is the nose weight when empty and maximum permissible nose weight?
  6. What is the hitch height?
  7. Does it have drop down legs to support the front and rear when being loaded?

The Tow Vehicle

  1. Will the trailer have a regular tow vehicle and if so, what make and model is it?
  2. What is the tow ball height?
  3. What is the maximum load that the vehicle/tow ball can take?
  4. What is the maximum permissible overall combined mass of the vehicle and trailer?

Lightwell Lifts (4)

You can contact the sales office on 01246 811 475, fill out our contact form or use our configurator.

A lightwell lift can operate up to 2 stops from basement to pavement level.

To be able to specify a goods lift we would need to know:

  • What you are wanting to lift
  • The size opening of the building
  • How everything is packaged
  • The floor-to-floor height of the lift space
  • How the lift will be loaded (i.e. wheeled or lifted on)
  • The required size and dimensions of the goods lift
  • Plans of the building, if possible

All goods lifts have a lead time of 4–6 weeks from placing the order.

Loading Bay Lifts (6)

Extremely versatile, our Loading Bay Lifts can be installed both inside and outside to suit a range of working conditions and environments, with very little to no alteration required.

Our loading Lifts here at Penny Hydraulics are able to lift goods between levels where the height is up to 1.5 metres.

For more advice on our Loading Bay Lifts, get in touch with the team at Penny Hydraulics today.

A warehouse loading bay lift is a goods only lift that is designed to run between two floor levels where the difference is less than 1.5 metres. They do not necessarily need to be fitted to a loading bay.

Loading Bay Lifts can be purchased directly from Penny Hydraulics. For more information and advice, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our dedicated team today.

Installing a Loading Bay Lift in your premises ensures that your workers are adhering to correct health and safety procedures and that your pallets, bins, stock, or other goods are safely transferred between levels without damage.

Mezzanine Goods Lifts (7)

Most of our standard mezzanine goods lifts operate to a maximum of two floors however,  We can offer goods lifts that are capable of travelling up to three floors.

Standard mezzanine lifts require a 20Amp/240 Volt 50Hz single-phase electrical supply. This should be determined in a double pole switch.

If circuit breakers are employed in the system, then they must be able to cope with the surge of an electrical motor. Lifts can also be supplied as 415 Volt, 3 phase units where required.

Before the project begins, one of our team will undertake a full site survey to determine the exact specification required.

To be able to specify a goods lift we need to know:

  • What you are wanting to lift
  • The size opening of the building
  • How everything is packaged
  • The floor-to-floor height of the lift space
  • How the lift will be loaded (i.e. wheeled or lifted on)
  • The required size and dimensions of the goods lift
  • Plans of the building, if possible

Our goods lifts typically have a lead time of 4–6 weeks from placing the order.

This depends upon site circumstances, duty, and model of lift.

A good rule of thumb is that it becomes more difficult to make a MezzLift over 4.0 metres and so standard prices will not apply.

Depending on what type of MezzLift you are looking for, the maximum weight can differ.

For example, a Heavy Duty MezzLift can lift a maximum of 1000kg, whereas a MezzLight can only lift a maximum of 250kg.

Winch Systems

Custom Winch Applications (5)

No, not at all.

With our bespoke systems, the winch can be located remotely to the main lowering point. We then use a series of pulleys to direct the hoist rope from the hoist location back to the main lowering point.

Our bespoke winch systems use several component parts to function, depending on their configuration:

Hoist Assembly – The hoist assembly consists of a drum for the rope to feed onto and an electric motor/gearbox that rotates the drum.

Pulleys – Pulleys are used to direct the rope between the Hoist Assembly and the Contact Suspension Unit.

Contact Suspension Units – When light is in its raised and operating position the Contact Suspension Unit connects the electrical circuits and engages a mechanical lock, relieving the winch, pulleys and wire rope from tension.

Cable Reels – The cable reel pays out the electrical flex to the light fitting as it is lowered to ground level and then automatically retracts the flex when raising the fitting back up to the high level.

Hoist Control Enclosure – The hoist motor uses 3 phase power to run so we use an inverter to convert the domestic 230v power supply feeding the system to 3 phase power that the hoist motor can utilise. The inverter is housed in the Hoist Controller Enclosure and all system control circuits feedback to this enclosure.

Electric systems use mains electricity to move the hoist. This means your chandelier winch is controlled with the push of a button.

Manual systems are used by manually rotating a hand crank or winch handle. The handle can either be permanently attached to the body of the hoist or removable for a tamper-proof option.

We always use tested and certified wire rope for suspension on both our bespoke and off the shelf self-contained winches.

The diameter of the rope used is dependent on the weight of the lighting structure.

Bespoke winches take approximately 6 weeks from design approval.

Workshop Cranes

Davit Cranes (6)

Davits are well-suited for working in confined spaces due to their compact design and can be easily maneuvered into tight areas where larger lifting systems may not fit. This makes them suitable for areas with limited access.

A Davit operates on a simple mechanical principle. The vertical mast provides stability and support, while the rotating boom allows for horizontal movement. The hoist or winch mechanism is used to lift and lower loads and their 360-degree rotation capability enables easy maneuverability and precise positioning of the load.

Yes, a Davit is designed to be portable, and is typically lightweight and compact, making them easy to transport and install in different locations.

Davit Cranes offer several advantages, including versatility in handling different load capacities, compact design for easy transportation and installation, user-friendly controls, built-in safety features, and are cost-effective when compared to larger lifting systems.

Regular maintenance is important to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of a Davit. Maintenance tasks mainly involve routine inspection, checking and replacing worn components, and load testing.

Davits are compact pieces of portable lifting equipment designed to provide efficient and versatile lifting. They consist of a vertical mast or post, a rotating boom, and a hoist or winch mechanism. These cranes are commonly used in various industries, including utilities, construction, marine, and manufacturing.
