Utilising our electric multi-rope winch systems our experienced design team can create the ideal raising and lowering solution that meets your specific requirements.
Penny Hydraulics’ team of designers, project managers and installers are able to guide you through each phase of the project from concept to completion. We also offer inspection and maintenance of the winch system to ensure its ongoing safety and compliance with legislation.
Tailored to your needs – Solve your specific problems and remove blocks with a custom winch, made based on your needs.
Simplify maintenance – Custom winch systems help to save time and effort when maintaining heavy or delicate loads.
Prevent damage – A winch carefully controls the raising and lowering of your load to keep it safe from damage.
Protect staff – 1 in 3 injuries at work are due to manual handling. Custom winches ensure the operator are protected from injury when lifting heavy loads.
We have been designing and building bespoke lighting hoist and winch equipment for many years. Our bespoke solutions are manufactured to meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations and all our products are CE marked.
We also help you to meet the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) that apply to any winching or lifting system that involves a change in level.
Penny Hydraulics supply lifting equipment to over 25 countries around the world. Interested in finding out more?
With a custom winch comes unique features that not all service engineers will be able to understand. Our UK-wide network of approved service engineers has a unique understanding of the systems used, allowing them to complete a thorough service and offer expert advice.
Regular maintenance is the only way to guarantee your lifting equipment remains compliant and safe to use over time while also extending the lifespan of the winch.
Electric systems use mains electricity to move the hoist. This means your chandelier winch is controlled with the push of a button.
Manual systems are used by manually rotating a hand crank or winch handle. The handle can either be permanently attached to the body of the hoist or removable for a tamper-proof option.
We always use tested and certified wire rope for suspension on both our bespoke and off the shelf self-contained winches.
The diameter of the rope used is dependent on the weight of the lighting structure.
Our bespoke winch systems use several component parts to function, depending on their configuration:
Hoist Assembly – The hoist assembly consists of a drum for the rope to feed onto and an electric motor/gearbox that rotates the drum.
Pulleys – Pulleys are used to direct the rope between the Hoist Assembly and the Contact Suspension Unit.
Contact Suspension Units – When light is in its raised and operating position the Contact Suspension Unit connects the electrical circuits and engages a mechanical lock, relieving the winch, pulleys and wire rope from tension.
Cable Reels – The cable reel pays out the electrical flex to the light fitting as it is lowered to ground level and then automatically retracts the flex when raising the fitting back up to the high level.
Hoist Control Enclosure – The hoist motor uses 3 phase power to run so we use an inverter to convert the domestic 230v power supply feeding the system to 3 phase power that the hoist motor can utilise. The inverter is housed in the Hoist Controller Enclosure and all system control circuits feedback to this enclosure.
No, not at all.
With our bespoke systems, the winch can be located remotely to the main lowering point. We then use a series of pulleys to direct the hoist rope from the hoist location back to the main lowering point.
Bespoke winches take approximately 6 weeks from design approval.
Load – The weight of the chandelier or luminaire plus any accessories must be taken into account.
Lowering Distance – What is the distance from the ceiling to ground level?
The shape and design of the luminaire determines whether single or multiple suspension wires are required.
Control and operation – Control can be carried out via a plug-in handheld Remote-Control Unit, wireless radio remote control or hard-wired buttons on a control panel.
Lead time – How quickly do you need your lighting lift? We have a range of ‘off the shelf’ self- contained electric lighting hoists that are easy to install and on short lead times.
