Royal Academy of Arts - Summer Canopy installation

by

Penny Hydraulics keep visitors to the Royal Academy of Arts cool with installation of giant sunshade canopy.

Penny Hydraulics Raising and Lowering division were once again commissioned to install a large sunshade canopy located outside the main entrance of the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, Central London.

The canopy is a steel, fabric and timber tensile structure – a unique design, custom-made for the gallery. Penny Hydraulics were responsible for shipping the canopy from the RAA warehouse in Enfield to site and for its assembly.

The job was particularly challenging due to the size and weight of the canopy’s structural steels. We required a team of 5, a forklift truck and high-level access equipment and other specialist lifting equipment to complete the installation which was made more difficult due to the 30-degree heat the engineers were working in!
