Penny Hydraulics Appoint Sir David Walker as Chairman

One of the UK’s leading business figures joins the Penny Hydraulics board.

Sir David Walker was appointed as Chairman of Penny Hydraulics earlier this year succeeding Helen Penny. He joined us earlier this week for his first board meeting.

Sir David who was born and raised in the local town of Eckington has a strong affinity to both the business and the local area and will bring a wealth of business expertise to our Company. Managing Director, Robin Penny commented:

“As part of a local family, Sir David has taken a keen interest in the Company for many years as he is fascinated by manufacturing in contrast to the finance sector where he has spent most of his illustrious career, including Chairmanship of Barclays Bank. He is eager to learn more about what and how we do things at Penny Hydraulics and to lend his expertise to help the Company grow and succeed.”

Sir David Walker’s Illustrious career includes:

  • Executive Director for Finance and Industry at the Bank of England (1989 – 1995)
  • Chairman – Morgan Stanley International (1995 – 2001 & 2004 – 2005)
  • Deputy Chairman – Lloyds TSB (1992-1994)
  • Chairman – Barclays (2012-2015)

Sales Director Richard Short commented:

“It is this bank of experience that the Directors and Penny Hydraulics team are excited to draw from to help our Company grow both in the UK and international markets during a time of economic uncertainty.

Having met with Sir David this week for our board meeting it is clear that he wants to help Penny Hydraulics to grow. It was great to learn about his past as a local man who remembers the mining pits being active.”
