Partnership: Loads Better

Commercial vehicles are now more widely used and worked harder than ever before and it has never been more important to make sure they are configured for safe and productive work with the right load handling, storage and workshop equipment. Providing a better and safer working environment supports improved working practices and is good for business because vehicles are used more effectively which means greater productivity and a faster return on investment.

Customers in Ireland can install in-vehicle storage and workshop equipment from Bott and vehicle mounted load handling equipment from Penny Hydraulics to get the most out of their commercial vehicles. The two companies have worked together for many years to supply effective solutions based on some of the best products on the market for customers in sectors such as construction, service engineering, distribution and delivery, local authorities and utilities.

“Penny Hydraulics products are ideal for all sorts of load handling and we have installed their equipment on vehicles for customers throughout Ireland,” says John Dormon, managing director of Bott in Ireland. “We have always had a good working relationship with them. We are both family run businesses with the same approach to providing great customer service and excellent products.”

Bott specialises in the design, supply and installation of in-vehicle storage, workshop and load handling equipment. Part of an international group, the company has access to the resources, expertise and knowledge of an organisation with more than 30 years’ experience serving customers across a range of industries. From its locations in Cork and Dublin, Bott offers a comprehensive range of services conveniently situated for customers throughout the country. Bott Limited is accredited to ISO9001 and each site has installation, workshop and administration facilities that enable the company to offer a complete design and configuration service covering all aspects of vehicle supply, conversion and delivery. Customers can pass the burden of vehicle preparation to a specialist service provider with an unbeatable combination of skills, resources and equipment.

When an application requires load handling equipment, Bott recommends vehicle mounted Swing Lift cranes and platform lifts designed and manufactured by Penny Hydraulics. These promote efficiency and help eliminate manual handling to reduce the risk of injury to employees and damage to vehicle and loads. Bott is the sole agent in the Republic of Ireland for the complete Penny Hydraulics range (stand 4261 at the CV Show in Birmingham in April) and runs two special demonstration vehicles which can visit customers’ sites.

Although Penny Hydraulics cranes have lifting capacities up to 2000kg, the majority of Bott’s customers specify equipment in the 250 to 500kg range that is ideal for general handling of loads including materials and small plant and equipment. For example, Bott recently converted six vehicles for Dublin City Council by equipping each with a 500kg capacity Penny Hydraulics Swing Lift Foldaway 500 crane for maintenance engineers to handle drainage pumps in and out of man-holes.

Side and rear mounted platform lifts from Penny Hydraulics are designed to handle loads up to 550kg on and off commercial vehicles. One of the models that has been popular in Ireland is the Load Lift, a light and compact unit for loads up to 300kg. It can be fitted inside the rear or side door of a van without restricting access to the load area or affecting vehicle capacity and does not need to be deployed to allow entry to the vehicle. Bott has installed a number of these in support vans operated by Advance Tyres for handling tyres, wheels and other loads.

The wide range of standard Bott modular products includes shelving, drawer stacks, service cases, lockers, bulkheads, worktops and accessories that can be installed in the leading commercial vehicle models. All units are manufactured at the company’s factories in the UK and Germany using heavy-duty steel and aluminium to ensure they are robust and durable to protect stored items in the most arduous applications. The careful design and installation of in-vehicle storage and workshop equipment helps to ensure tools and other items are stored neatly, safely and securely when the vehicle is in motion but are readily available when needed. This promotes productivity because less time is spent locating items and reduces costly damage to tools and equipment during transit. It also helps users to comply with health and safety regulations and guidelines for the stowage and transportation of equipment and when working from a vehicle.

Bott and Penny Hydraulics work with customers to discuss their requirements and agree the specification of the vehicle or fleet including load handling equipment. Bott then manages the supply, conversion and configuration of the vehicle to meet the customer’s timescales. Vehicles can be accepted direct from the manufacturer on the dealer’s behalf to reduce vehicle movements and costs.

“Bott has invested time and money to become a certified Penny Hydraulics approved converter,” says Richard Short, sales director at Penny Hydraulics. “One of the key benefits of working with a specialist like Bott is knowing that the work will be completed quickly to the highest quality. Bott understands the market and we can be sure that the equipment is installed to our own exacting specifications and standards.”
