Chesterfield lifting equipment manufacturer, Penny Hydraulics, is celebrating the news that they have been certified to the international Occupational Health & Safety standard.

The standard (known as ISO 45001:2018) specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system and enables the organization to provide a safe and healthy workplace by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving its OH&S performance.

ISO 45001 certification

In 2019, Penny Hydraulics made the decision to add the ISO 45001 certification to the management system certifications already held – ISO 9001, 14001 and the BS EN 1090 standards. The business was largely operating in accordance with the new standard but required better documentation so that compliance could be clearly demonstrated. Further investment in the business was provided and in February 2020 a Compliance Manager – Peter Hill – was employed to lead the certification process.

Peter Hill, Compliance Manager at Penny Hydraulics, commented: “We are delighted to have achieved this certification as it shows to customers and the wider community that Penny Hydraulics is professionally run and cares about its workforce.”

“To achieve the Occupational Health & Safety standard after a year of disruption is testament to the Penny Hydraulics team, who have stuck together and worked hard throughout the pandemic to make this happen on schedule.”
