A common request being the addition of mezzanine floors to maximise useable space within a premises, which is often done on a large scale. The company have, in fact recently added a huge 1000m2 of additional storage space at Groupauto, the premier trading group for motor factor businesses, through the installation of mezzanine floors.

Mezzanine floors enable warehouses and distribution centres to significantly increase productivity and the efficiency of their operations. Wayne Thomas, Project Manager at Avanta explains “Used in combination with appropriate storage solutions, a single or multi-tier mezzanine floor extends the space available for storage and ensures that the internal volume of the building is used to its fullest capacity.”

Indeed the benefits of mezzanine floors are well known. Mezzanine floors increase storage space, especially considering it is becoming more common for companies to have up to 4 mezzanine floors installed. They also offer business owners the flexibility to adapt to changes in demand. Thanks to new technologies and materials, modern mezzanine floors have the ability to support high loads too, meaning they can be used to hold stock, or even be used as office or production space. Furthermore, the variety of options available are not just suitable for traditional warehouse environments, but make mezzanine floors an attractive and suitable option for many types of company.

Multi award winning lifting equipment manufacturer Penny Hydraulics Ltd pride themselves on offering “the finest range of goods lifts…flexible, strong & cost effective.” In business for over 38 years, the company offer a range of specialists lifts to move goods between mezzanine floors. Following consultation with Penny Hydraulics specialist goods lift design engineers, a 3 tier MezzPro, specification mezzanine lift was specified for the Hallmark project to run goods between the ground floor and 2 new mezzanine levels. The MezzPro has a maximum working load of 500kg and offers opposed mast support for minimal platform deflection. The lift operates quickly between the 3 levels at approximately. 0.15m/s and was supplied with a bespoke sized platform to suit the requirement of Hallmark exactly. The lift was designed with 2000mm high, electrically interlocked double gates at both levels and constant pressure control buttons at both levels and a loading ramp to allow items on trolleys to be easily rolled on and off the platform.

Penny Hydraulics mezzanine floor lift design offers a major selling point and sets their range apart from many other lifts on the market. Penny Hydraulics General Manager, Jocelyn Cole explains “One major benefit of our range is that the lifts are floor mounted and no lift pit is required. This rules out any time consuming or potentially expensive construction works. The lifts are entirely self-supporting, enclosed in a mesh shaft.”

All Avanta projects are fully compliant with all relevant Fire and Building Regulations. In addition, the goods lift was designed, manufactured and installed to comply with all European legislation. Jocelyn continues, “All our lifts are CE marked and built in conformance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 and The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998…we have a range of safety features built in as standard including level gates fitted with electrical & mechanical interlocks, an emergency stop button fitted to all control stations, an anti-slip platform surface, hose burst protection and lift overload protection, meaning Hallmark can be assured that they are fulfilling their duty of care to employees by providing safe work equipment.” The MezzLift is supplied with 12 months warranty and will be regularly tested in accordance with LOLER regulations to ensure it continues to perform well and to work safely throughout its life.
