Hilton Hotel Edinburgh required a goods lift to transport laundry bags from the roadside to the basement.

Following a free of charge site survey, a Penny Hydraulics goods lift was specified to run up and down the 3m gap. A gate was needed at the upper level and level access made out onto the pavement. The gate was able to be locked shut when the lift was not in use. Penny Hydraulics Ltd fitted inter-locks to this gate so that when the lift was in use it would not open unless the platform was docked at the upper level.

An enclosed platform (sized at 750 by 750) was fitted to the lift so that at least 2 laundry bags could be carried at one time. Enclosing the platform also meant that it was not necessary to build a shaft around the lift as there was no risk of goods falling. The design meant that the operator would be set at a safe distance from the lift in the basement.

A 20 amp, 240 volt, single-phase supply was required terminated in a double pole switch at a position in the basement inside a locked-up, waterproof box provided by Penny Hydraulics. Control was via a hold to run handle close to this supply point. The lead-time was four weeks.

The following safety features were applied and are standard across the goods lift range, level gates fitted with electrical & mechanical interlocks, hazard warning safety signs, comprehensive O&M manual, emergency stop button fitted to all control stations, anti-slip platform surface, hose burst protection & overload protection.

The goods lift was CE marked and built in conformance with; Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Lifting Operations & Lifting, Equipment Regulations 1998 & The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.

Penny Hydraulics own nationwide team of service and installation engineers, not only installed the goods lift, but also carried out statutory inspections in accordance with LOLER.
