Partnership with Romstor, Essex on 250kg Mezz Light Installation

Romstor, founded in 1998, is a storage product business based in Essex. They supply everything for storage and handling from Racking to Mezzanines, from Bins to Partitioning. Penny Hydraulics were delighted to be contacted by Romstor back in 2012 to partner with them on a project for one of their high profile customers.

Romstor were looking for a company to supply a mezzanine floor goods lift for one of their customers based in Dartford who had a warehouse stocking medical equipment. The warehouse had a mezzanine floor installed within it to maximise useable space within the building. The mezz floor was used as a storage area and goods frequently needed to be moved up into the storage area when they were delivered into the facility at ground level and moved back down from the mezzanine floor when they were due for despatch. This project was a great example of handling the goods lift as a part of a larger project through a 3rd party. In fact, a large percentage of the work our Goods Lift team carry out is for a 3rd party dealing with the mezzanine floor manufacturer, architect or construction company handling a larger construction project.

Following a free site visit to the customer’s premises, the Penny Hydraulics specialist goods lift design engineers specified a Mezz Light mezzanine floor goods lift with a maximum working load of 250kg to carry the medical supplies. The fully enclosed lift was housed in a self-supporting mesh shaft. The platform was sized to 1000mm x 1500mm to suit the items being loaded and the goods lift was guarded 900mm high to suit the loading direction. At the entrance to the lift at both levels, 2000mm high gates fitted with electrical interlocks to prevent the gates being opened unless the platform is docked at the appropriate level were included. A small fixed ramp was provided at the lower level to assist loading on to the 50mm deep platform. A 20 amp, 240 volt, single-phase supply was required terminated in a double pole switch at the lower level. Control was via hold to run, push button control stations adjacent to the gates at both levels.

The mezzanine lift was designed from a standard brochure design with some minor tweaks to suit the customers’ needs which helped to keep costs on the project at a minimum. The lift was manufactured within a 4 week lead time at Penny Hydraulics UK premises and installed by their experienced install team.

The first years planned maintenance programme was included. This included the scheduling and auctioning of the Statutory Tests required under current UK legislation, LOLER.

The project was a great success and Penny Hydraulics look forward to partnering with Romstor again in the future. There are already some interesting joint projects in the pipeline.
