3 Level Mezzanine Floor Lift Installed at Hawthorn Theatrical

Hawthorn is the largest independent stage equipment hire company in the UK, staffed by knowledgeable people. They offer lighting hire, stage hire, sound hire, drapes and AV equipment. Their headquarters is in Leicestershire.

Having installed two mezzanine floor lifts previously for Hawthorn Theatrical previously, Penny Hydraulics Goods Lifts department were contacted by Mr John McAlonan of the company as he required a further goods lift for their Leicestershire warehouse to lift and lower flight cases between 3 floors; ground, a first mezzanine level and a second mezzanine floor.

Once the second mezzanine floor had been installed, Area Sales Manager, Martin Oke attended the site for a free of charge, no-obligation site survey to take measurements. This visit was followed up by the Goods Lift specialist design engineers back at Penny Hydraulics HQ in Chesterfield who then specified the right lift for the building and goods. Full CAD drawings were supplied to Mr McAlonan at this stage.

A MezzPro mezzanine floor goods lift was specified with a maximum working load of 500kg to carry the flight cases. The lift design incorporated a self-supporting mesh shaft and no lift pit was required for the installation. The platform was sized at 1250mm x 2450mm and guarded 900mm high on the non-loading edges. At the entrance to the lift at all three levels, 2000mm high gates (two at the upper and lower level) were specified. The gates were fitted with electrical interlocks to prevent the gates being opened unless the platform is docked at the appropriate level and prevent the lift being operated unless all gates are closed. At the lower level a 50mm sump was required to allow for level access onto the platform.

A 2.2kw, 415 volt, three-phase and neutral supply was required terminated in an isolator at the lower level. Control was via a hold to run, push button control station adjacent to the gates at each level. It was necessary for the power supply to be available at the time of installation.

Following approval, the MezzPro goods lift was manufactured within a 4 week lead time at Penny Hydraulics in the UK and the lift was installed in June 2015 by the companies’ nationwide network of installation engineers. The customer also benefited from 12 months parts & labour warranty.

Now the third Penny Hydraulics goods lift installed at the same site. Penny Hydraulics look forward to installing more lifts at the premises as the company continues to expand!
