United Utilities Select Penny Hydraulics as their Lifting Equipment Refurbishment and Maintenance Provider
United Utilities holds a licence to provide water and sewage services to around seven million people in North West England. Between 2010 and 2015 the company will be investing more than £3 billion to improve the water and wastewater infrastructure and the environment across the UK.
As a long-standing Penny Hydraulics crane customer, United Utilities approached the company in 2012 as they had a requirement for hydraulic crane for their 3.5 tonne commercial vehicle.
A SwingLift V12 was specified as the best crane to meet their needs. The V12 hydraulic truck crane is a 1.26 tonne/metre crane. Like its big brother the V20, it includes load limiting devices, load limit indicator and a choice of remote control or proportional fixed controls as standard.
The low crane weight of this hydraulic truck crane is approximately 184kg maximising payload and has a compact design whereby the crane folds down to the king post maximising floor space. The integrated, fully enclosed oil tank and motor-pump unit further enhances this point. The hydraulic pickup crane has a maximum working capacity of 1150kg and will still 440kg at full extension which is 2.9m.The crane comes with a choice of remote control or fixed proportional hydraulic controls and built in overload protection.
At 4 years old, the crane was booked in at Penny Hydraulics HQ for a full service and refurbishment. In this case, the V12 hydraulic crane was assessed and minor repairs were carried out before the crane was given a “Thorough Examination” in accordance with LOLER legislation. The crane and vehicle were then back on the road in a matter of days. The fact that this crane is subject to heavy use (for United Utilities this piece of lifting equipment is key to their day to day operation and is used multiple times per day) shows the durability and longevity of Penny Hydraulics cranes.
